    Awards & Accolades

    1. Achen-Gardner Construction’s Primus Line installation project at Thunderbird Road and the Loop 101 for the City of Peoria has won a 2018 Engineering Excellence Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona.

    Groundbreakings

    2. True North Studio, LLC announced The Cambria Hotel in downtown Phoenix — Roosevelt Row Arts District — has started construction and is set to open in late 2019. The project is in collaboration with Choice Hotels International, Inc.

    3. A six-month Arizona Department of Transportation project to replace the deck of the bridge over Interstate 10 at Pinal Air Park Road will begin in early November. Preliminary work on the $1.85M began Oct. 24. In addition to replacing the deck, crews will repair girders under the bridge.

    Progress Reports

    5. Achen-Gardner Construction recently installed 304LF of 36” rubber gasketed reinforced concrete irrigation pipe on its Van Buren Street Infrastructure Improvements project for Hudson Commons in Goodyear.

    6. Mortenson is using tilt-up construction to build the water slide tower for the Great Wolf Lodge Arizona. The first slide tower frame panels were recently lifted into place as the project continues on schedule toward an August 2019 completion date.

    7. On Oct. 18, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and City Councilmember Virginia Korte, along with retailers, Macerich executives and Kitchell representatives all autographed the back of a 40-foot marquee sign installed on the newly renovated Goldwater Boulevard Bridge.

    Completions

    8. Gilbert’s Big League Dreams is now called Cactus Yards and will reopen Feb. 9 under the town’s control. Gilbert spent $42.7M to open the youth sports facility in 2008 and abruptly closed it more than a year ago citing safety concerns.

    9. Cadence at Gateway, just off SR 24 at Ellsworth and Ray Roads in Mesa, gave a VIP preview of The Square and its amenities. The event, hosted by developers Harvard Investments, gathered investors, partners, builders and the contractors who have been building Cadence.

    10. An Oct. 24th ribbon-cutting at a pair of properties operated by TMM Family Services Inc. provided more affordable options in Midtown Tucson for seniors and veterans. The complexes offer 20 apartments intended to accommodate veterans and low-income seniors who live with a care giver or family member. Ten units offer amenities for disabled residents. Both sites will allow easy access to the commercial dining hall, activity and learning centers and athletic facilities at the TMMFS main campus.

    11. The long-awaited Get Air Indoor Trampoline Park in Yuma has opened. The indoor facility, located at 3121 S. 4th Ave., Suite B, in the Big Curve, is filled with wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits, ninja course and more.
