Awards & Accolades
1. Estrella Welcome Center revitalization project is a finalist for the Gold Award in the Best Community Welcome Center category in the National Association of Home Builders’ “The National Awards 2024” competition. The project earned a Silver Award for being an NAHB finalist and is a collaborative effort led by Claudia Sieb of The Sieb Organization and the team from Creative License International.
Groundbreakings
2. Strata Clean Energy broke ground on the $500M Scatter Wash battery-storage complex in Phoenix that will feature 312 batteries. The complex is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
3. Grading and infrastructure work has begun on the new Abrazo Health medical campus in Buckeye. The official groundbreaking is expected this spring, with the first entry being a 60KSF medical office building.
4. 29th Street Communities announced the groundbreaking for two projects in Goodyear. Cotton Commons MFR, a 408-unit multifamily project, and Cotton Commons BFR, a 187-unit single family rental community.
5. W.E. O’Neil Construction broke ground on Pascua Yoqui Tribe Early Childhood Learning Center in Tucson. The Center—also called Itom Ili Tosapo Am Remtituane or, “Our Little Nest of Enlightenment”—was designed by Swaim Associates.
6. W.E. O’Neil Construction broke ground on Fry’s Fuel Center #58 in Tucson. The project will include seven pump stations, a fuel island canopy and a pre-manufactured employee kiosk.
Completions
7. Valley Metro announced the completion of Northwest Extension Phase II, a 1.6-mile expansion starting at Dunlap and 19th Ave in Phoenix.
8. The Villas in the Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley project has completed construction. Five Star Development is the developer and The Solvere Group is handling sales and marketing.
9. HCW announced the completion of Caesars Republic Scottsdale, a 265-room hotel in Scottsdale. The 11-story, 260KSF hotel boasts five top-floor penthouse entertainment suites and includes two restaurants by Chef Giada De Laurentiis: Luna by Giada and Pronto by Giada.
10. U-Haul completed its new 900-unit storage facility in Apache Junction. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Apache Junction will also include 144 covered RV spaces with electric hookups and a warehouse to store more than 650 portable moving containers.
11. The new 157-unit apartment complex, DC Heights, completed construction in Chandler. The complex offers studio, one- and two-bedroom units. The property is managed by Chamberlin + Associated Real Estate.
12. MEB Management Services announced leasing is available at The Aster at Mountain Vista, a 156-unit apartment community in Mesa. The community offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
13. Pecan Lake Entertainment Center, a $16M entertainment venue, opened in Queen Creek. The venue offers multiple recreation outlets and several restaurants.
14. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced The Interstate 8 Sentinel Rest Areas at milepost 83, 30 miles west of Gila Bend, reopened after being closed since late 2021 for rehabilitation. The $7.6M renovation included the restrooms, parking lots, water & wastewater system and more.
15. A.R. Mays Construction announced completion of the $6.4M Earnhardt San Tan Hyundai, a 27.56KSF retail lot in Gilbert. A.R. Mays was the general contractor and Earnhardt Arizona Properties, LLC was the developer. John Mahoney Architect was the architect.
16. City of Chandler announced that its Fire Station No. 2 rebuild has finished. The open house will be February 3rd showcasing the expansion from 7,800SF to 13,500SF.
