Groundbreakings
1. The Town of Florence, in collaboration with ADOT and the Maricopa Association of Governments, announced work has started on two roundabouts at SR 287 and SR 79B. The general contractor is J. Banicki Construction.
2. Arizona Department of Transportation announced the construction start at the Kingman Interchange between the I-40 and US 93 began with an expected completion year of 2026.
3. Multifamily builder and developer Porter Kyle announced the groundbreaking for The Cleveland, a 100-unit townhome rental community in Goodyear. Leasing is expected to start next spring. Porter Kyle also recently completed construction on The Prescott at Park West in Peoria and just completed construction on The Ashley in Chandler.
4. The City of Avondale broke ground on a new sand volleyball complex at The BLVD. There will be five competition-grade sand volleyball courts, perimeter fencing, spectator seating, shaded structures and other features. The project is expected to cost $2.9M and to open in June. Gavin & Barker Inc. is the architect and engineer and Chasse Building Team was awarded the facility construction contract.
Progress Reports
5. Pattern Energy Group LP announced it has closed an $11B non-recourse financing and begun full construction of SunZia Transmission and SunZia Wind. SunZia Transmission is a 550-mile ±525 kV high-voltage direct current transmission line between central New Mexico and south-central Arizona with the capacity to transport 3,000 MW of electricity. SunZia Transmission will deliver power generated by Pattern Energy’s 3,515 MW SunZia Wind facility, which is under construction in New Mexico.
Completions
6. The Moxy Phoenix Downtown, a 164-room hotel in the 100-year-old historic Luhrs Building, has finished construction. The Moxy cost more than $40M to build and is a part of the Marriott International Inc. umbrella. Jake Bodell of FFKR Architects was the principal architect and Chris Shook of Flick-Mars was the interior designer.
7. Trinity Capital Inc. completed renovations of 15KSF in its new headquarters at The Department building in Phoenix. With the renovations now complete, the company will occupy 30KSF across two floors in the seven-story mixed-use building. Renovation costs were not disclosed.
8. The City of Maricopa has opened the doors of the new 3KSF courthouse at the Civic Center.
9. The former Prescott Gateway Mall in Prescott has completed $2.5M in renovations and has been renamed Pine Ridge Marketplace. ZL Prescott, LLC, the new owners, oversaw the renovations and rebranding.
