1. ACEC Arizona announced the winners of its 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards. The Grand Award-winning projects were:
- South Central Extension/Downtown Hub by AECOM for Valley Metro,
- Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project by TYLin for the Arizona Department of Transportation and
- Frontier Family Park by J2 Engineering and Environmental Design for the Town of Queen Creek.
The Honor Award winners were:
- Farallon Water Campus by Hazen and Sawyer for the City of Buckeye,
- West Silverbell Road: Blanco Wash Bridge by HDR for Pima County,
- 24th Street Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation Project by Carollo Engineers for the City of Phoenix,
- Detroit Basin Stormwater and Neighborhood Improvements by Entellus for the City of Chandler,
- Pima Road: Pinnacle Peak Road-Happy Valley Road by Kimley-Horn and Associates for the City of Scottsdale,

Groundbreakings

2. Teravalis, a Howard Hughes Community, broke ground on the 22KSF Echo Community Center in Buckeye. Planned on a 22-acre site, the project will anchor Floreo, the community’s first village, and is scheduled to open in early 2027.
3. The Arizona Department of Transportation began pavement improvements Sept. 24 on a 10-mile stretch of I-40 between Meteor City Road and Two Guns, east of Flagstaff. The project includes resurfacing, guardrail replacements, new striping and traffic flow detectors. Completion is expected in fall 2026.
4. Ulysses Development Group broke ground Sept. 23 on Wild Rose Flats, a 98-unit affordable housing community at 2949 N. 43rd Ave. in Phoenix. Twenty-two apartments will provide services funded by project-based vouchers through a partnership with nonprofit Save the Family.
5. The Arizona Department of Transportation began a $12.2M project to replace 4.4 miles of pavement on US 70 between Thatcher and Safford. Work started Sept. 29 and is scheduled to finish in spring 2026.
6. The City of Maricopa broke ground on a $1.5M expansion of Mike Ingram Heritage Park. The project includes a 400-seat amphitheater, playground, landscaping upgrades and a memorial wall, with completion expected by mid-December.
Progress Reports

7. The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the City of Phoenix, City of Glendale and the Maricopa Association of Governments, has reached the one-year mark on the $140M Loop 101 widening between I-17 and 75th Avenue. The 6.5-mile project began in Sept. 2024 and is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.
8. Wespac Construction celebrated the steel topping out for the Sprouts Farmers Market Headquarters in north Phoenix. The seven-acre CityNorth campus will include a 150KSF office building, a 25KSF Sprouts grocery store, 11KSF of retail and restaurant space and a three-story parking garage. RSP Architects is the designer, Trammell Crow Company is the developer, Next Level Steel led the structural steel work and brokerage services are provided by Keyser and JLL. Completion is expected in August 2026.
Completions
9. Rosie, a 19-story high-rise in downtown Phoenix, opened with 370 apartments, primarily studios. The project also includes 4.5KSF of coworking space.
10. Villas Goodyear at 870 S. Sarival Ave. and Villas Litchfield Park at 12730 W. Camelback Road held ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The gated rental communities feature single-story one- and two-bedroom villas with private backyards.
11. Pennrose, in partnership with Butler Housing Company, CBC Financial Corp, the City of Phoenix and the Arizona Department of Housing, opened Garfield Terrace I, a $57M, 60-unit affordable senior housing community in downtown Phoenix’s Garfield Historic District. At the same event, construction began on Garfield Terrace II, which will add another 60 units and is expected to be delivered in fall of 2026.
12. Ulysses Development Group celebrated the grand opening of Dahlia Village, a $45M affordable housing complex at 3620 S. 12th St. in Phoenix. The community includes 100 units, eight of which are reserved for people experiencing homelessness. Rents, tied to income levels, start at $1.3K for a two-bedroom.
13. Tudo Capital completed Stacks on Polk, a 19-unit apartment project near Loop 202 and Polk Street in Phoenix. The complex was built from 45 shipping containers and offers one- and two-bedroom units at 640SF and 960SF, with rents starting at $1.3K per month. The developer is also in the early planning stages of another apartment community in Arizona.
14. The Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix completed a $5.5M renovation of 242 guest rooms, including 27 suites, at CityScape in downtown Phoenix. Designed by Beleco Design, the project was the property’s first refresh since opening in 2012 and is the initial phase of a larger renovation scheduled to continue into 2026.
15. Salt River Project installed a 650-pound aluminum flume in the Verde River watershed. The 10.5-by-9-ft structure was modified with a heater, fitted with welded components and placed at the site by helicopter. SRP will monitor the installation to determine if it can be replicated elsewhere in its watershed.
