    Groundbreakings

    1. Construction is underway on Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Taxiway Uniform project, a $333M initiative to build a 2,060-ft taxiway connecting the west ends of the north and south runways. The multi-phase project will improve aircraft flow and operations and is expected to be completed in 2027. Early work includes realigning Buckeye Road and Sky Harbor Blvd.

    2. DPC Companies has broken ground on Chandler Innovation Park, a three-building Class A industrial park totaling 327.8KSF on 21 acres at Arizona Avenue and Ryan Road in Chandler’s Airpark Area. Buildings will range from 39KSF to 190KSF with 28’ to 32’ clear heights. The project is expected to be delivered in Q2 2026. Alcorn Construction is the general contractor, and Lee & Associates is handling leasing.

    3. Empire Group of Companies broke ground on Village at Borgata, a 287-unit Build-to-Rent community on 27 acres at 3959 W. Hunt Hwy. in San Tan Valley. The project features one-, two- and three-bedroom homes and is backed by $70.3M in construction financing arranged by Tower Capital. Leasing is expected to begin in 2026.

    Progress Reports

    4. Crews accelerated construction on the City of Tempe’s Downtown Streetscape Improvements CMAR project to complete new accessible pedestrian ramps along Mill Avenue between 5th Street and University Drive before the fall semester began. The project, led by Achen-Gardner Construction, is the first renovation of the corridor in nearly 40 years and will deliver phased hardscape, landscape, pavement and artistic upgrades along Mill Avenue from University Drive to Rio Salado Pkwy. Construction is ongoing in phases and is expected to wrap up in 2026.

    5. ADOT completed a $1.8M project on SR 73 near its intersection with SR 260 in Indian Pine. Work included 1,824 ft of new sidewalks, nine light fixtures, ramps, handrails and signage. The project was funded through the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program.

    6. Crews will break ground mid-September on upgrades to Mike Ingram Heritage Park at 44200 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy. in Maricopa. The project includes a new stage, amphitheater seating, landscaping and a playground. Work is scheduled for completion in mid-December.

    Completions

    7. Achen-Gardner Construction has completed the City of Surprise’s Cactus Road CMAR project from the BNSF Railroad crossing to Litchfield Road. The project widened the roadway to three lanes in each direction with new medians, turn lanes, sidewalks and utilities. Work also included six new retention basins and sitework. The project required extensive coordination with BNSF Railway to ensure work remained on schedule without disrupting rail operations. Construction ran from October 2024 to June 2025.

    8. Achen-Gardner Construction crews accelerated mainline installation at the intersection of Alma School Road and Erie Street to finish before the fall semester at Chandler High School. The work is part of the City of Chandler’s Water Main Replacements CMAR project, which is replacing water lines, service connections and fire hydrants throughout Erie Street, Sunset Manor and Tyson Manor. The full project is expected to wrap up in December.
