Awards & Accolades
1. The University of Arizona’s historic Chemistry Building received a LEED Silver level certification following a $42M renovation and construction project. The Chemistry Building received the Engineering New Record Southwest Best Renovation/Restoration Project Award and the AIA Arizona Kemper Goodwin Collaboration Award. Shepley Bulfinch was the architect. Green Ideas Building Science Consultants managed the LEED certification process and completed the required energy modeling.
Groundbreakings
2. Developer 3Edgewood LLC broke ground on a two-story, nearly 33KSF office building at The Grove in Phoenix. LGE Design Build/Group is the architect and general contractor. Expected completion is set for the end of 2024.
Progress Reports
3. After a construction pause during the pandemic The Luxe at Desert Ridge, a 223-unit condominium development will resume construction in Phoenix. The $145M community had 100 units completed prior to the pause and has 36 units underway. Construction of the final 87 units is scheduled to start this summer. The Statesman Group is the developer. Expected completion of the six four-story buildings is in approximately two years.
Completions
4. SRP and NextEra Energy Resources announced the completion of Sonoran Solar Energy Center, a 260MW solar plant with a 1 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system, south of Buckeye. The facility joins Storey Energy Center and Babbitt Ranch Energy Center in supplying Google’s data centers in Mesa.
5. Moderne Communities announced the opening of Moderne at Roosevelt, a 185-home Build-to-Rent community in Tolleson. The development offers one-, two- and three-bedroom homes. RPM Living will oversee leasing and property management.
6. Sky Rock Sedona, a 109-room Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott, opened in Sedona.
7. Newport SW LLC announced that leasing for Newport at Rodeo was full in advance of the project’s grand opening ceremony later this month in Tucson. Newport at Rodeo is a seven-building, 77-unit affordable housing complex that offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units with an average rent between $855 to $1,184 a month.
8. StreetLights Residential announced The Bergen, a 58-unit, two-bedroom community at The Grove, has begun leasing in Phoenix. StreetLights Creative Studio was the architect and interior designer while Trueform Landscape was the landscape architect. SLR Phoenix Construction II, LLC was the general contractor.
9. Aerie Development recently held a grand opening for Linda Vista Luxury Rentals, a 54-unit apartment complex in Oro Valley. The community offers one- and two-bedroom units. MEB Management oversees the leasing and property management.
10. The Goodyear Fire Department has opened Station 188. The station is located on the NEC of Harrison Street and Citrus Road.
