The City of Phoenix plans to issue a Request for Proposals in the fall to create a mixed-income housing development on 3.2 City-owned acres near Central and Columbus Avenues.
The plan is part of the City’s goal to create or preserve 50,000 housing units by 2030. The site is one of approximately 20 City-owned parcels that have been identified as suitable for affordable housing.
The site is located near light rail, and Phoenix housing officials have spent months collecting feedback from residents as to what they want to see on the site. Residents responded that they would like to see restaurants and retail that are open and available to the public on the ground floor, and the City will ask that developer responses include some ground-floor retail or public space.
The formal RFP will seek proposals for a project that offers mixed-income housing and commercial space. Given that the site allows for buildings of up to 100 feet in height, the development could be significant. (Source)
