    Giving Back

    1. The Dorrance Family Foundation of Scottsdale has issued a $300K matching funds grant to Rancho Feliz for the construction of its new “La Hacienda Feliz” volunteer dormitory in Agua Prieta, Sonora, on the U.S./Mexico border. Volunteers housed at the dorm will build homes, distribute food and care for children and seniors in the area’s slums, fostering cross-cultural service experiences.

    Groundbreakings

    2. Spike Lawrence Ventures broke ground Oct. 31 on the $58M mixed-use development New Square Chandler at the corners of Arizona Avenue and Chicago Street.

    3. The Wolff Company has broken ground on Revel Scottsdale, a new independent living apartment community at 8225 E. Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale

    4. Adolfson & Peterson Construction recently began construction on the $15M Avanti Senior Living facility in Peoria. It is slated for completion next fall.

    Progress Reports

    5. The revitalization of Park Central has taken another step forward, as the “Front Porch” section of the project — the outdoor dining area facing Central Avenue and shared by several of the project’s restaurants — is now 100 percent complete and is open to patrons.

    6. The Helios Education Foundation’s education campus at 32nd Street and Camelback Road won’t open for a few months, but the building is being constructed to look and function in 100 years as well as it does today. Construction is expected to be completed by first-quarter 2019.

    7. A shopping center at Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard is in the midst of a $14M renovation to convert it from retail and restaurant to a modernized mix of retail, restaurant and creative office uses. DPC Cos. is converting the nearly 150KSF B7 | Block 7000 space.

    Completions

    8. After more than a year of renovations and millions of dollars invested, Scottsdale Fashion Square recently opened its new luxury wing.

    9. The Scott Resort & Spa is the latest Phoenix-area hotel to wrap up a multimillion-dollar renovation. The 204-room property at 4925 N. Scottsdale Road received $15M in upgrades during more than a year.

    10. Sundt Construction, Inc. celebrated the completion of the City of Mesa’s Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant at a dedication this month. The $103.6M water treatment plant treats Colorado River water supplied via the Central Arizona Project canal to drinking water standards.

    11. The Arizona Department of Transportation has finished $6.5M worth of improvements along a 17-mile stretch of State Route 88 (Apache Trail). Improvements include paved vehicle pullouts, adjustments to several curves and replacement of some existing sections of old guardrail.

    12. Graycor Construction Company has completed the redevelopment of a former Sam’s Club warehouse store into HUB 317, a fully speculative, Class A distribution center owned and developed by DPC Companies and Confluent Development. HUB 317 is located on 12 acres at 317 S. 48th St., Phoenix. The project combines the renovation of a 115KSF former Sam’s Club building and Go Kart Track location with 109.6KSF of new tilt-up industrial construction.

    13. Destiny Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, $24.5M inpatient and outpatient behavioral health facility, will open in Surprise in December. Founder Dr. Martin Newman was prompted to construct the 67.6KSf to help address a gap in behavioral health care in the West Valley.

    14. Nearly 20 years after the idea was born and 15 years after development began, Maricopa County has finished a 315-mile trail that circles the entire county.
