    Groundbreakings

    1. Construction officially began June 8 on The McMillian Mesa veterans home facility in Flagstaff, during a groundbreaking hosted by the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services (ADVS).

    2. Ground recently broke on phase II of Sagewood, a northeast Phoenix community for seniors who want to age in place, which is jointly owned by Life Care Services Corp. and Westminster Capital Inc. The plans for Phase II of construction will cost $100M and is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. The architect is Todd & Associates, while the project is being built by The Weitz Co.

    3. Evergreen Devco Inc. announced it has recently begun construction for its development of the 36KSF Point @ Eastmark, located at Signal Butte Rd and Warner Rd in Mesa. The project is expected to be completed in November 2019.

    4. American Care Concepts held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 3 for the construction of the 105KSF, 89-unit American Groves Senior Living project at 941 E Elliot Rd, Gilbert. The project is expected to be complete in Spring 2020. Layton Construction is the general contractor and architectural services were completed by Allen + Philp and Partners.

    5. The Empire Group of Companies last week broke ground on the 184-home Village at Pebble Creek. LSH is the general contractor and Felten Group is the architect.

    Progress Reports

    6. Casino del Sol has completed the first phase of its hospitality project — a new event center at Casino of the Sun and an expansion to the existing conference center at Casino del Sol. The general contractor is McCarthy Building Cos. The architect is Cuningham Group.

    7. Great Wolf Lodge Arizona provided an exclusive sneak-peek of the resort and released details for an all-new slide called Diamondback Drop making its world debut at the family-friendly resort. 8. Members of the Yavapai Nation hosted a topping-out ceremony at the location of the new We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort, 10424 N. Fort McDowell Road, Fountain Hills. The ceremony also marked the debut of the new name We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort (formerly Fort McDowell Casino) and the new logo. The structural phase of the building remains on schedule to open the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort in the summer of 2020. Thalden Boyd Emery is the architect and Kitchell Construction is the general contractor.

    9. Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA), the country’s leading provider of kidney care products and services, announced plans to open a 40KSF office at 1650 S. Price Rd. this fall. The project, currently under construction, will be an important tenant for the 170-acre mixed-use business park called Park Place.

    10. McCarthy Building Companies Inc. has topped out construction on the new $20M, five-level, 293KSF Oregon Street parking garage for the City of Chandler, which includes a road realignment along Oregon St as well as intersection improvements at Arizona Ave and Chicago St. Upon completion in November 2019, this will be Downtown Chandler’s largest garage with 932 parking spaces.
