In its third annual “States with the Best Infrastructure” study, the company compared all 50 states using eight metrics: Percentage of roads in good or fair condition;Percentage of bridges in good or fair condition;20-year water system needs;Broadband coverage;Average frequency of electricity outages;Average duration of electricity outages;Average commute time, andPercentage of commuters using public transit. In addition to several cases on their individual agendas, P&Z and DRB had three requests that appeared before both bodies last week. An undeveloped Maricopa site currently zoned for high-density residential could see a future as a commercial center under a proposal from Alpine Development Partners LLC. Alpine is requesting a general plan amendment on a 3.6-acre site near Porter and Honeycutt roads. If approved, the company plans to develop Maricopa Commercial Center, which would consist of a 15.4KSF multi-tenant retail building and a 25.6KSF multi-tenant flex industrial building. The announced closure of a city park in San Luis is being taken as a sign expansion work at the San Luis I Port of Entry could begin soon. An announcement by the U.S. General Services Administration said GSA will fence off Friendship Park before the modernization and expansion project begins. Avenue D-E: SR 195 to US 95, also known as the Avenue D/E Corridor – will move forward following the Yuma County Board of Supervisors’ unanimous approval of an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Somerton. The project is a planned north-south corridor that will connect the San Luis II Port of Entry to Somerton. Twenty-five percent of the project lies in Somerton, with the remaining 75% in Yuma County.
