The Mesa Design Review Board heard a proposal this week regarding Google’s plan for Phase II of its data center development on more than 185 acres near the NWC of Elliot and Sossaman roads. The plan is codenamed Project Redhawk.
The Board also heard the company’s plan for a one-story office building—Redhawk HUB—on the campus.
The presentations were for informational purposes only, and no action was taken by the Board.
The 280KSF air-cooled data center will be used as part of the backbone for Google’s various service offerings, including search, Gmail and continuing work in artificial intelligence advancement.
The property owner is listed as Stone Applications LLC. DLR Group is the applicant/representative for the HUB submission, and HDR, Inc. is the data center applicant.
Google and the City of Mesa entered into a Government Property Lease Excise Tax incentive agreement for the site in 2019. Under the terms and conditions, Phase I of the data center development must be completed by July of next year. The company also must spend $600M in capital expenditures within the same timeline under a development agreement with the City.
Google is also required to meet several performance metrics for the campus, including 500KSF of development with $800M in total expenditures and $240M in taxable construction by 2027 and completion of the entire project in 2030.
The agreements were signed in July 2019 after collaboration between Google, Mesa, the Arizona Commerce Authority, Salt River Project and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. (Source)
