A Request for Information from the City of Goodyear seeks a potential partner for the development and operation of a potential new sports complex for use by residents and for hosting tournaments.
The RFI covers the design, construction, financing and operation of the 130-acre City-owned site along Interstate 10 on both sides of Litchfield road.
The City’s vision is for 15 soccer/multiuse sports fields, walking trails, 48 pickleball courts, and supporting facilities like parking, restrooms, maintenance and water storage. Other recreational uses could also be considered.
The development would take place across three phases and has an estimated cost of $130M. Deadline for submissions is Sept. 6.
A feasibility study for the potential project by J2 Engineering and Environmental Design LLC found that there are fewer spaces available for soccer and pickleball in the Southwest Valley than in other parts of metro Phoenix. The study notes there are few facilities with four or more fields, and that pickleball’s rapid expansion in popularity has created a resulting demand for large-scale complexes with tournament capacity.
Trail System Expansion
Goodyear has also recently issued a Request for Qualifications for engineering and architecture companies for a planned expansion of the Bullard Wash Trail System.
The project would expand the trail and linear park from its current endpoint near McDowell Road and 150th Drive south to Lower Buckeye Parkway and the Estrella Mountain Regional Park, which would bring the Bullard Wash Trail System total area to approximately 130 acres.
Expansion features could include a trailhead with parking, maintenance facilities and other features.
The project’s design budget is $2.28M, with $21.2M allocated for construction under a planned future budget.
Responses are due Sept. 4. (Source)
