The School Facilities Oversight Board has authorized more than $70M for new school construction and land purchases for projects in the Queen Creek Unified School District. The SFOB allocation was 7% more than QCUSD had requested.
The largest project on the list, a 90KSF facility currently named Elementary School #10 was allocated $27.8M for construction and $11.2M to purchase an 11.4-acre site for the development. Capacity is planned for 1,000 students, and the site will be located in the Eastmark area.
The project had been part of a $198M bond request that failed to win approval in the November election. The last two bond requests have been rejected by voters, making new facility development and maintenance difficult.
Another $21M will be spent developing space for up to 650 junior high students who take classes in the Eastmark and Crismon high school buildings.
Also approved was $10.1M for another 33KSF of total space at Gateway Polytechnic Academy and Schnepf Elementary. The new space will add capacity for 365 students.
The District has approved $5.5M to use for portable classrooms while the new spaces are built.
Other QCUSD requests before the SFOB look to add another 200KSF of both elementary and high school space in fiscal years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. (Source)
