A 124-room Premier Suites extended stay hotel could soon join businesses at the Casa Grande Mercado under requests before the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission this week.
The Commission met the evening of June 5, after this issue went to press.
According to the staff report, Casa Grande Mercado is one of the city’s oldest planned area developments, established as a 10-lot subdivision in 1990. The original PAD called for a mix of commercial and retail uses with a maximum building height of 24 feet.
One lot included an exception to the height rule for a possible hotel. That space was eventually developed as a restaurant.
The currently planned hotel requires a PAD amendment to specifically allow for the proposed use and a 50-foot building height. The requested amendment will also combine the two lots making up the 2.18-acre site into one. Various street and accessway revisions are included.
The Commission will also consider a major site plan to approve the siting of the hotel and its parking and other features.
Staff has recommended approval for the PAD amendment and approval with minor modifications for the site plan.
InterMountain Management (as Casa Grande Hospitality LLC) is the project owner. The design firm is BRR Architecture. Y2K Engineering conducted the traffic study.
