    Groundbreakings

    1. Owners Southwest Public Power Agency and BrightNight, partnered with Cordelio Power to begin construction at a groundbreaking for the Box Canyon Solar Project, a 300MW solar development near Florence. The expected completion time is the first half of 2025.

    2. Echo Real Estate Capital broke ground on Echo Park @ P132, a four-building project totaling nearly 183KSF of industrial space. Winton Architects, GF Group, KAEKO, Mechanical Designs and Hawkins Design Group are the project team. The expected completion date is October 2024.

    3. Achen-Gardner Construction began work on the Detroit Basin & Gazelle Meadows Park area for drainage improvements. Some of the improvements include additional manholes, catch basins, enlarging storm drains, updating valves & fittings and replacing concrete and asphalt. Construction is expected to finish in May of 2024.

    4. Equity 1000 partnered with Boomerang Capital Partners LLC to begin construction of Volare Hangers at Pegasus Airpark, a 34-hanger facility in Mesa. The facility will offer space to store planes, helicopters, collectible cars and other high value items.

    5. W.E. O’Neil Construction held a groundbreaking ceremony for Garfield Housing Phase II, a 60-unit senior community that will consist of a four-story building in the Garfield neighborhood of Phoenix. The project is designed by Dekker Perich Sabatini and developed by Pennrose. The project is funded by Low Income Housing Tax Credits and will bring affordable housing options to seniors in Phoenix. 

    Progress Reports

    6. Sanders and Amos, along with their management partner MEB Management Services, announced it is pre-leasing for Casitas Catalina, a 194-unit luxury single-family rental community east Tucson, opening in 2024.

    7. Kiva Lodge, a 90-year-old motel in Mesa, was demolished in October after owner Chicanos Por La Causa got approval from the City. Mesa Preservation Foundation received the historic neon sign prior to the demolition. The demolition is the first step in construction of CPLC’s 90-unit Mesa on Main affordable housing development.

    8. Avondale’s police substation received final plat approval from the City Council for the update to the detention center. The new facility will replace the current 10-person cells with pods for two inmates each. The project is estimated to cost $17M and to complete in December 2024.

    9. JLL Capital Markets led construction financing efforts for ATLAS and OakPoint to secure $12M. The 60.5KSF industrial ATLAS Germann development on 8.16 acres is fully leased to Frito-Lay, Inc.

    Completions

    10. The City of Avondale announced the opening of the renovated Mountain View Community Center. The community center will offer an E-sports room, game room, multi-purpose room for fitness and dance classes, and an arts & crafts room.

    11. Oak Street Health opened a new center in Sun City, co-branded with AARP. This center is Oak Street’s 13th in Arizona and will also provide 12 exam rooms and a community center to host events, bingo, chair yoga, educational courses and arts & crafts.
