Awards & Accolades
1. The Avondale Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department won two awards at the Arizona Parks and Recreation Conference 2024. The awards were the Partnership Award, awarded for the collaboration on the Tres Rios Nature Festival, as well as the Outstanding Facility Award, issued for the Avondale Aquatic Center’s design and sustainability.
2. The City of Buckeye received the 2023 Facility of the Year Awardfrom the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association for the Phase II expansion of Sundance Park at 22865 W. Lower Buckeye. The expansion provided the 38-acre park with a splash pad and an urban fishing lake.
Groundbreakings
3. A Sam’s Clubwarehouse and fuel station at Tempe Marketplace has begun construction. The City of Tempe issued BRR Architecture Inc. three building permits for a fuel canopy, fuel kiosk and a 153.5KSF retail warehouse. Collectively, the three buildings combine to a valuation of $24M, with the permit for the retail warehouse at $22.9M. The Tempe Development Review Commission approved the Sam’s Club in May. Vestar Development Co. is the owner of Tempe Marketplace.
4. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Sept. 19 for the three-story, 62.5KSF GSQ Medical Buildingat Goodyear Civic Square. The project is expected to be completed in Q3 2025. Butler Design Group is the architect for the core and shell; Devenney Group is the architect for tenant improvements. The development is led by a joint venture between Ryan Companies and Globe Corp. Upon completion, the building will be occupied by Banner Health.
5. Wespac Construction, Inc. announced construction has started on a new project at The Beam on Farmer. Construction consists of a first-generation tenant improvement for Offerpad Solutions Inc., a company using the 39.9KSF fifth floor of the Tempe building. Wespac intends to put in a raised access flooring system to leave the appearance of the building unchanged. In addition to Offerpad, Wespac is collaborating with Caliber Project Management and the design project team, including RSP Architects, Transact Interiors and Faciliteq Architectural interiors.

6. Korman Communities’ AVE residential brand has announced it is putting the finishing touches on its 400-unit AVE Paradise Valley multifamily development, part of the PV Reimagined redevelopment of the former Paradise Valley Mall. Designed by Nelsen Partners and built by StreetLights Construction, the complex is pre-leasing and is expected to open in November.
Completions
7. The Isabella, a 182-unit apartment community managed by Stellar Residential, has finished construction and is available for rent. The Glendale community at 15431 N. 67th Ave. offers studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments.
8. The Crossings at Windsong, a 152-unit multifamily project on Windsong Drive in Prescott Valley, is now open. The community was developed by Edgewood Real Estate Investment Trust and is managed by P.B. Bell.
9. Child Crisis Arizona scheduled a free open house Sept. 25 to celebrate the opening of its 2.4-acre, 38KSF Center for Child & Family Wellness. The open house will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 424 W. Rio Salado Pkwy. in Mesa.
