Groundbreakings
1. Construction has started at Meritum Sonoran Desert, a 348-unit apartment community at Sonoran Desert Drive and 29th Avenue. The development from IDM Companies features DAVIS as the design firm, IDM Builds as the general contractor and HILGARTWILSON as the civil engineer.
2. SunCap Property Group is adding to its portfolio at Gilbert Spectrum with construction of the 119.2KSF Building 3. SunCap has selected Graycor Construction Company as the design-build contractor for the building, which will continue the evolution of the developer’s 64-acre industrial park in Gilbert. Construction is scheduled to begin this month, with delivery in Q4 2024.
3. Work has begun on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s $26M pavement project to improve SR 95 between Courtwright Road in Mohave Valley and Bullhead Parkway in Bullhead (mileposts 227 to 250). Work includes removing the top layer of pavement and replacing it with new asphalt and replacing the curb and gutter, sidewalk ramps, pavement markings and other related items. Completion of the 23-mile project is expected next summer.
4. Concord General Contracting and more than 100 guests celebrated a groundbreaking last month for the Teen Challenge of Arizona Men’s Center in Tucson. The project will rebuild and expand the previous Men’s Center at the same location.
5. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held recently to mark the launch of Kingman’s $7M downtown revitalization project. Work will primarily take place along Beale Street between First and Sixth streets and consist of updates to improve the pedestrian experience and make sidewalks, ramps and driveways ADA-compliant.
Completions
6. Phoenix Children’s recently held a ribbon cutting to mark the completion of the 35KSF Phoenix Children’s Emergency Department — Avondale Campus. The facility will begin service on July 26.
7. The new Costco Wholesale has opened for business in the 411KSF Buckeye Commons shopping center at I-10 and Verrado Way.
8. Hamilton High School in Chandler recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of its $7.5M cafeteria and kitchen renovation and expansion, with adds of a roof extension allowing for 300 indoor seats and tables, and upgrades to various food service and seating areas.
9. The Sunset Point Rest Area has reopened following the completion of a $7.5M Arizona Department of Transportation project to upgrade its restrooms, water and septic systems, and other amenities. The project included renovating and reopening the original restroom building that had been closed since the new restroom building opened in 2010.
10. SDB Contracting Services recently completed the 30KSF MIND 24/7 flagship treatment center in Phoenix, transforming a fitness center into a mental health facility. The $6M highly technical project was completed in three phases with the client occupying Phase I upon completion. Features include high-end finishes, curved walls and SkyFold walls. SDB’s in-house steel shop designed, custom fabricated and installed a radius frame observation window.
11. A. R. Mays Construction has announced the completion of a $2M, 4.1KSF amenities project for Mattamy Homes’ 153-acre Empire Pointe master-planned community in Queen Creek. The Felten Group-designed project includes a state-of-the-art 3.5KSF fitness center and a plaza with a pool, gathering spaces, game lawn and other amenities.
12. SDB Contracting Services completed the new crew base at PHX Sky Harbor International Airport for Frontier, including a new crew room, conference room and shared office.
