Awards & Accolades
1. Achen-Gardner Construction was presented with a Build Arizona Award from the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors of America for its ZONE 1 Transmission Main Assessment and Rehabilitation CMAR project for the Town of Gilbert. The project consists of removing and replacing sections totaling more than 270 feet of large diameter bar-wrapped concrete cylinder pipe and more than 30 valves in a critical water transmission main.
Groundbreakings
2. South Pier Tempe Holdings LLC (McBride-Cohen Management Group), has started construction on South Pier Phase I, part of the $1.8B South Pier at Tempe Town Lake master plan. Phase I includes 724 residential units in three towers and 26KSF of retail on a 3.3-acre site.
3. ViaWest Group began work in Goodyear on the latest Valley location for the Sub-Zero Group, Inc., which, at completion, will total more than 1MSF of manufacturing space in Goodyear for the major kitchen appliance company. ViaWest Group, Scottsdale Investment Management, and their building partners Willmeng Construction, DLR Group and Kimley-Horn broke ground on the state-of-the-art, 599.4KSF build-to-suit industrial warehouse that is the third facility the company operates in the West Valley.
4. Thompson Thrift announced it has started construction on the first phase of the 1MSF Germann Commerce Center in Queen Creek. Located on the SWC of Germann and Meridian Roads, the first phase of the Germann Commerce Center will consist of approximately 400KSF of speculative light industrial space in five standalone buildings spread across approximately 26 acres.
5. Sterling Real Estate Partners recently started construction on their award-winning 212-unit hotel to apartment conversion project Presidio Palms Apartments in Downtown Tucson. The 10-acre property has been entitled and permitted to convert a former hotel to 212 apartment units and allow for development of an additional 154 units. The first units are expected to be delivered by this summer.
6. The Maricopa County Department of Transportation has begun work to widen the Gilbert Road Bridge in the East Valley from two lanes to four. The bridge runs along Gilbert Road between Loop 202 and SR 87. The project is expected to take three years.
Progress Reports
7. The Chandler City Council has unanimously approved the final plat for Chandler Airpark 202, a 26-acre industrial development under construction between Loop 202 and Germann Road.
8. Officials have estimated the Yavapai County Criminal Justice Center, under construction in Prescott, is expected to be substantially complete in April. County Facilities representatives have also reported the estimated costs have risen by $1.7M, for a current total of $64.8M.
9. The timeline for the $3M Granite Creek Corridor improvement project in downtown Prescott has been pushed back by “several weeks” due to heavy rain and snowfall this season. The in-stream flow and trail improvement effort was originally targeted for an April delivery.
Completions
10. On behalf of developers GID and SunCap Property Group, Graycor Construction Company has completed construction on Gilbert Spectrum Buildings 9, 10 and 11. The three Class A buildings are part of the 64-acre Gilbert Spectrum industrial park at McQueen and Elliot roads in Gilbert. Building 9 is 100KSF, Building 10 is 142KSF, and Building 11 is 66.4KSF. The buildings have already reached 93% capacity. Leasing is through Ken McQueen and Chris McClurg of Lee & Associates Arizona.
11. The Best Western Signature Collection’s 49-room Egyptian Motor Hotel renovation project on Grand Avenue in Phoenix has been completed and is now open for guests.
12. Mark-Taylor Residential, in partnership with BB Living, has introduced BB Living at Civic Square, a 290-unit Build-to-Rent community near Litchfield Park in Goodyear.
13. Company and Town of Queen Creek officials hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 26 for the new 150KSF Costco store on South Ellsworth Road.
14. The Kroger Company will host a grand opening for its newest Fry’s Food Store in the Asante area of Surprise on Feb. 22. The 128KSF full-service grocery store is located on West Pat Tillman Blvd.
15. Generation Church in Mesa has completed its $2M expansion project on South Ellsworth Road. Generation Church is rated as one of the U.S.’ 100 fastest-growing congregations, and the expansion has doubled its capacity to now serve up to 1,100 people.
