To meet the growing power demands of the Phoenix metropolitan area, SRP issued a 2025 All-Source Request for Proposals on Feb. 24.
The RFP seeks competitive proposals for resources that can provide at least 600 megawatts of summer capacity by the summer of 2031 and an additional minimum of 500 MW of capacity by the summer of 2032. SRP is also seeking information on the earliest date that projects can be online, recognizing the interest and potential for large customer growth.
SRP is also seeking proposals for resources that provide up to 2,700 MW of new carbon-free energy such as solar and wind, including wind associated with new interstate transmission projects. SRP also encourages proposals for other zero-carbon resources and is interested in technologies that can provide carbon-free energy during all hours of the day such as biomass and geothermal.
In its Integrated System Plan, SRP found that it will need to at least double its power resource capacity to meet projected energy demand in the next 10 years as it moves forward with the planned retirement of 1,300 MW of coal resources.
SRP is taking significant, industry-leading steps to decarbonize its power generation portfolio while maintaining the affordability and reliability that is critical for customers. SRP currently serves customer energy needs with a diverse fuel mix that includes nuclear, hydroelectric, natural gas, coal, battery storage and renewable resources including solar, wind, biomass and geothermal.
SRP will evaluate and compare proposals that meet the minimum requirements identified in the RFP, which include SRP self-developed resource options.
Resource projects selected through the 2025 All-Source RFP process will support SRP’s 2035 Sustainability Goals and resource growth plans outlined in SRP’s Integrated System Plan. The RFP will be open until April 29. Information and updates are available on SRP’s website at srpnet.com/AllSourceRFP. (Source)
