The Scottsdale City Council has voted to update its building and energy construction codes and made a green construction code for new buildings mandatory.
Homebuilders will also be required to include the ability to add fast electric vehicle charging outlets in the garages of new single-family homes.
The building code is taken from the 2021 International Residential Code. The energy code is from the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code, and the green construction code is from International Green Construction Code. Along with the vote, Council declared all three sources to be public records.
Council members all supported the changes, but they differed on making the green code mandatory and on amendments requested by staff.
The adoption of the building and energy codes with the electric vehicle charging amendment passed 5-1, and the mandatory green construction code passed 6-1. (Source)
