Awards & Accolades
1. The American Society of Civil Engineers Phoenix Branch recognized outstanding projects at their March 11th luncheon. The $7.5M Pinal Valley Recharge and Recovery Facility in Coolidge received the Small Project of the Year award. The team consisted of Arizona Water Company, Carollo Engineers and Clear Creek Associates, and Hunter Contracting. The $17M Santiago Trail Nitrate Removal Facility, Booster Pump Station, and Water Storage Tank in Casa Grande received the Large Project of the Year award. The team consisted of Arizona Water Company, Dibble Engineering and GHD, and Fann Environmental.
Groundbreakings
2. Concord General Contracting recently broke ground on the new 32KSF sanctuary that will seat 700 people for Sun Valley Community Church in South Gilbert, as well as the new 18KSF addition and 14KSF renovation to the existing Sun Valley Community Church in East Mesa. Concord and Todd + Associates have teamed up for both projects.
3. In partnership with Flagstaff, the Arizona Department of Transportation is starting a project this week to improve traffic flow and add capacity for bicycles and pedestrians where Fourth Street passes over Interstate 40. In addition to the improvements at Fourth Street, this project includes a resurfaced bridge deck and repairs to the pavement approaches to the Butler Avenue bridges over I-40. The work is scheduled to be complete by winter.
Progress Reports
4. The first phase of Chandler’s New Square development is nearing its completion but a progression ceremony planned for March 25th has been postponed to a later date. Phase two of the New Square project will include a six-story building at the SWC of Chicago Street and Arizona Avenue. Lawrence said the building will be home to a variety of tenants and construction should start later this year.
5. The Bella Vista Farms well and transmission line is under construction and is expected to be completed by mid-April. Once completed, the well will provide additional water resources to the southern part of region No. 2 and will provide consistent water pressures and redundancy. The well and transmission line will have the ability to add nearly three million gallons per day to the system.
6. Crews are laying concrete for a new basketball court and converting a tennis court into four pickleball courts at Rumsey Park in Payson. All the tennis courts will get a new acrylic coating and striping. The tennis courts should get a new coating in May.
Completions
7. Mavrix One, LLC completed construction on the Mavrix, a former Toys ‘R Us store at 9139 Talking Stick Way, Scottsdale, that was converted to a $4.5M, 44.9KSF entertainment center. It offers 24 lanes of upscale bowling, 85 arcade games, state-of-the-art laser tag, billiards tables, dozens of 4K televisions, 1.5KSF of meeting and event space, a 5KSF restaurant and bar featuring chef-prepared menu items and a large outdoor games patio. The architect was StudioLemonade and the general contractor as A.R. Mays Construction.
8. My Place Hotels announced the opening of the brand’s 55th hotel in Arizona. Located off of the I-10 Exit 131 at 915 N. Avondale Boulevard, the 63-key, four-story hotel was developed by MP Avondale LLC., built by Haydon Building Corp, and is managed by Venerts Hotel Management.
