A Feb. 6 review of the City’s planned capital improvement projects by the Maricopa City Council’s Budget and Finance Subcommittee revealed a total planning budget of $151.7M, including $77.8M, or 51.3%, planned for roads and area infrastructure.
Over the course of the next 10 years, road project investment is projected at more than $496M, according to a local news report.
The City’s multi-year Capital Improvement Plan shows $693.5M in total capital requests for 141 improvement projects between 2025 and 2034.
Maricopa has seen extensive growth in the last several years, a trend that is expected to continue and accelerate. Traffic has become a leading complaint from residents.
The proposed budget includes more than 30 road projects of varying sizes this year, including $12.9M for State Route 238 widening and improvements and $5.43M for a box culvert on Murphy Road at Farrell Road.
Outside the roads and streets focus, residents can expect to see a $20.1M Field House at Copper Sky making progress as the largest outlay for the Recreation Department.
The Subcommittee will meet again on April 23 and may issue a tentative approval on May 6. The final approval is expected from City Council on June 3.
