House Bill 2543, a measure that would allocate more than $300M for rural road maintenance projects, passed the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee earlier this month.
The legislation is of particular interest to officials in Kingman, where voters last year rejected a sales tax measure that would have gone toward establishing a pavement preservation and road maintenance program.
The bill establishes projects that submitting county and municipal officials have said are their highest needs.
Kingman projects that would benefit from the funding include:
- Airway Avenue Improvements: $2.6M;
- Eastern Street Improvement and Rehabilitation Projects: $8M;
- Interchanges at Interstate 40 and Rancho Santa Fe Parkway between Santa Rosa Drive and Louise Avenue: $10M+.
The bill would transfer money from the state general fund to the Arizona Department of Transportation beginning in fiscal year 2024. Money would then be distributed to counties, cities and towns. Cost inflation estimates are factored in, officials say. (Source)
