By Arizona Department of Transportation The Arizona Department of Transportation is targeting pavement improvements and expanding several key highways as major parts of its Tentative Five-Year Construction Program for 2025-2029. This proposed annual update to ADOT’s list of projects in design and construction is now available for public comment through late May. A major emphasis of the proposed $7.9B tentative program is improving highway pavement and bridge infrastructure throughout greater Arizona, which encompasses areas outside of Maricopa and Pima counties. Faced with cost increases that have exceeded the combined budget for county building construction and remodeling projects from a 2021 total of $70M to a current estimate of $108M, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors has voted to realign the projects’ budgets and cut nearly $16.8M. The newly updated budget now stands at $91.6M. The Board will review the individual projects to see where or if additional funding can be procured. According to pre-application documents filed with the City of Maricopa, the Smith Family has plans to sell more than 420 acres of agricultural land at the NEC of Porter and Steen roads for a new subdivision. Stagecoach Springs at Smith Farms would place approximately 1,100 single-family homes on 300 acres and up to 990 multifamily units on 41 acres. Local media reports say the Glendale City Council approved an agreement with Fisher Sand & Gravel to build the 3,864-space parking structure in its Feb. 27 meeting. Fisher is also developing the VAI Resort and Mattel Adventure Park through VAI Global Development. Glendale had previously posted a request for qualifications and received four responses. The widening project will increase capacity and reduce congestion on a busy section of I-10 near Wild Horse Pass within the Gila River Indian Community. A key segment slated for improvement is the I-10 Gila River Indian Community Project, a nearly 12-mile section from Loop 202 (Santan/South Mountain) to just north of the Gila River Bridges.
