After a massive and coordinated opposition campaign, Flagstaff voters rejected a planned rezoning of nearly 100 acres that would have been used to develop an $800M campus with a new hospital, a medical office building and a parking garage.
Northern Arizona Healthcare and various environmental and anti-development groups had been locked in a heated back-and-forth of support and opposition for months, with allegations of misinformation coming from both sides.
A representative said NAH was disappointed at the referendum results but that it intended, “To keep our commitment to Flagstaff and the region to provide a modern health care facility capable of serving our community.” She added NAH will now be evaluating alternative locations for the hospital.
Even though preliminary results showed a nearly two-to-one margin of votes against the development, the tally will not be official until all votes are tallied and canvassed. (Source)
