The Call for Entries for the 16th Annual Canstruction Phoenix Metro has been issued.
The annual design-build competition benefitting St. Mary’s Food Bank will once again be held at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale. Teams will showcase their talent by designing and building structures made entirely from canned foods in a 10’x10’x10’ space in one of the mall’s three courts.
This year’s theme is “A Holiday for Any Season!”
Important dates to remember include:
PreCanstruction
- May 4th Canstruction 101 Presentation (Optional)
- May 5th Entry and $250 fee due
- May 8th Team Packets Sent Out
- June 9th Structure sketch with dimensions due
- June 30th Team Photos & T-shirt orders due
- July 11th Text & Logos for Official Entry Sign due
- July 11th Can Counts Due & Can Delivery Sign-up
- July Practice Builds (Optional)
Canstruction
- 07/31 & 08/01 Cans delivered to St. Mary’s Food Bank
- August 4th Move in (Team Captain’s Meeting Optional)
- August 5th Build Day – Team Begins at 8 a.m.
- August 8th Judging (check your structure beforehand)
- August 19th DeCanstruction – 7 a.m. (bring baskets, ladders and other tools needed to help take down structure)
- August 19th DeCompression Brunch – 9 a.m.
Keep in mind all teams must have at least one member who is an architect, engineer, contractor, professor, teacher or other designated design professional to provide mentorship. All entries will be available for public viewing during regular mall business hours between Aug. 5 and Aug. 18.
In 2022, the Canstruction competition resulted in 98,000 meals donated. Total donations since 2012 equal an incredible 488,000 meals.
