The Maricopa City Council took up the issue of funding for a new Police Administration Building and Emergency Communication Center at its December 7th meeting.
According to the agenda notes on the City website, the item was to “discuss and take action to approve a budget not to exceed $25,388,785 for the new Police Administration Building and Emergency Communication Center and to revise project #38049 to solely include the construction, IT/Communications, and complete outfitting… of the new Police Administration Building and Emergency Communication Center.” Results of the meeting were not available at press time.
The updated and upgraded headquarters and communication center is planned next to the Pinal County Courthouse on Wilson Avenue.
The new building is being designed with expansion in mind to accommodate future growth needs, according to city officials, who hope to have it open in approximately one year.
The current 8KSF police station, built in 2013, will be repurposed, possibly into an arts center. (Source)
