A report from Rounds Consulting Group commissioned and released by Arizona Sonoran Copper Company claims reopening the Cactus Mine west of Casa Grande could generate $8.5B over the project’s expected lifespan.
The mine is expected to have an 18-year operational life with five years to prepare before opening and five years to clean up and restore the site after operations end.
The report estimates nearly 1,400 direct and indirect jobs, with $90M in labor income, as a result of the project. The estimated total tax revenue from the project is $366M.
A rezoning request was recently recommended for approval by the Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission and will be taken up by the City Council. (Source)
