A request for a new hotel on .84 acres located near the intersection of Scottsdale and Thomas Roads is once again making its way through the City of Scottsdale’s Development Review Board.
Gerald R. Kesler Inc. Architecture (GKI), on behalf of the owner, Krista R. Corporation, is requesting approval of a site plan, landscape plan and building elevations for the development of a +/-36.7KSF Country Inns & Suites Hotel at 7312 E. Thomas Road.
The new limited service, three-story hotel will house 44 guest rooms, 22 rooms on each of the second and third floors, and two residential condominium units with balconies, one on the second floor and one on the third. The ground floor will house facilities including a bar with shaded outdoor seating area, breakfast room and lobby.
The building will be wood frame construction with a maximum height of 48 feet. According to the applicant’s narrative, “Architectural design is proposed to be southwest contemporary incorporated with the green building design principles which are compatible with the developments in the area and adjacent neighborhoods.” The report goes on list a combination of material uses such as, “stucco, precast stones, engineered wood lapped siding, energy efficient glazing, thermal broken aluminum frames, solar shading overhangs, recessed doors and windows,” and more.
The development will allow for 58 parking spaces and, according to the narrative, an access drive will replace curb cuts on Thomas Road in order to coordinate with new traffic flow and parking.
The owner had previously submitted a request for a Zoning District Map Amendment in 2017 to amend a previously approved development plan. According to a Scottsdale Independent article dated November 22nd, 2018, “Originally, the development plan called for a mixed-use development called Diamondback Commons.” Scottsdale City Council approved the zoning amendment at its November 13, 2018 meeting.
While the owner’s current request for site plan approval was submitted back in March 2019, no meetings have been scheduled yet with the City of Scottsdale.
