    Groundbreakings

    1. Property Markets Group began demolition on a surface parking lot and one-story building at 200 W. Monroe St. on March 11. Construction begins in June, and the new 20-story, 253-unit apartment complex, dubbed X Phoenix, is expected to open in 2021.

    2. American Care Concepts has announced the groundbreaking of Countryside Senior Living, 22773 E Ocotillo Rd., Queen Creek. The community will consist of 40 resident suites, individual dining areas, common areas, salon, secure outdoor courtyards, team member support areas and outdoor equine and animal therapy facilities. Construction is slated to be completed in early Spring 2020. Porter Bros. Construction is the general contractor.

    3. The Tanque Verde Guest Ranch has broken ground on a new 20KSF Event Barn at the historic site. It will accommodate up to 300 guests and the barn doors will open onto a patio and spacious lawn. Seaver Franks Architects is the architect and Barker Contracting is the general contractor. The project is expected to be complete in the fall.

    4. Stellar Residential held a “glass-raising” ceremony to honor the commencement of construction for the highly-anticipated renovation and repurposing of One Camelback into an upscale apartment building. UEB Builders is the general contractor and Eriwn Architecture & Development is the architect.

    5. Heidi’s Village, a $22M, 40KSF animal shelter planned for Phoenix, will begin construction with a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday at 9 a.m.

    6. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday, March 21, for the new $8M U.S. Vets Prescott complex at 1040 Whipple St. in Prescott. The four-building complex will include 150 units of new housing for homeless veterans, including 76 beds for transitional living and studio apartments for single adults.

    Progress Reports

    7. Another big step in the process of creating the State Route 347 is about to begin. Crews working with the Arizona Department of Transportation are expected to start pouring concrete to create the bridges on the overpass over the next few weeks. On Thursday, work will begin on the expansion and elevation change of Honeycutt Road, to put it in line for the new road alignment once the overpass is complete. The project is expected to be complete by the end of this year.

    8. A $12.8M project to provide travelers on Interstate 10 with timely warnings about potentially deadly low-visibility conditions from dust storms on a 10-mile stretch in Pinal County is expected to be complete by October.

    9. Great Wolf Lodge announced that it will begin welcoming guests on October 17, at its first-ever first-class family resort adjacent to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The project will feature 350 guest rooms and an expansive, 85KSF indoor waterpark.

    10. Achen-Gardner Construction crews are hard at work day and night on the City of Chandler Price Road Reclaimed Water Line and Wells Fargo North Driveway Improvements Design-Bid-Build project. Construction began in February and is expected to be complete by May.

    11. The first phase of track is down at the $40M Apex Motor Club. The project eventually will feature five-car garage condos, a clubhouse, a pool, go-cart track for kids, a fueling station, a restaurant, meeting spaces and other amenities — along with 4.2 miles of track, up from the current 2.3 miles of winding road. Completion is scheduled for late 2021.

    12. On March 20, Yuma Elementary School District One unveiled their nearly complete Dorothy Hall Elementary School. Though the school may still be mostly concrete, and only one of the three buildings currently has drywall, the district expects to be done in around four and a half months before the 2019-2020 school year on Aug. 5. McCarthy Building Companies is the general contractor.

    Completions

    13. The Eloy City Hall complex officially opened for business earlier last week. The move to the other side of Main Street Park allows for the expansion of the Police Department into the old City Hall.

    14. Arizona Center, Phoenix’s original downtown entertainment destination located at 3rd Street and Van Buren, recently completed construction on its $25M makeover, which includes new creative office space, outdoor work stations, shopping, entertainment and casual dining. In addition to the completed property renovations, the first upscale select-service boutique hotel in downtown Phoenix, AC Hotel by Marriott, will break ground next month and is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2020.

    15. Banner – University Medical Center Tucson will welcome its first patients to its new, nine-story, $446M patient tower beginning April 22. The tower was designed by architects Shepley Bulfinch, engineers AEI and GLHN Architects & Engineers. The lead contractor was Sundt I DPR.
