Capitalizing on the increase of popularity in the shooting sports over the last decade, owner C2 Tactical and developer Venn Companies are seeking approval for a new C2 tactical indoor shooting range near the intersection of Ray and Sossaman roads in Mesa.

The three-story, 33KSF facility will be C2 Tactical’s third location. The first was opened in Tempe in 2013. The second location opened in April in the 101 Scottsdale retail center near Mayo Boulevard and Scottsdale Road following renovation of a previously occupied space.

The proposed Mesa location will also serve as the company’s headquarters, according to the project narrative submitted on C2’s behalf by architect SEVEN4 Studios, LLC.

The main floor will feature a 35-lane shooting range, VIP area, retail shop, gunsmithing service area, training/classroom space, a storage area, and loading and dock space for deliveries. The top floor will be comprised of office and storage areas, and the basement will provide an additional VIP section and long range (100 yard) shooting tunnels.

C2 Tactical’s training courses include handgun, rifle and shotgun instruction, as well as specialized instruction for concealed carry and tailored courses for female shooters and safety instruction in real estate agents.

Proposed materials for the Mesa site include tilt up concrete panels; a concrete entry feature; painted steel columns, beams and scrim; steel solar fins and planters box, and steel entry cladding. The city’s Design Review Board reviewed the plan in a June work session and was generally supportive of the proposed design, particularly in terms of the natural materials selected for the building. DRB did request that the landscape plan be amended to include a berm or screen wall on the southern property line to screen the parking lot from the road.

Mesa’s Planning and Zoning Board approved the site plan with standard stipulations on a 6-0 vote July 18.

Construction on the estimated $8M-$10M project is expected to begin in Q1 of 2019, according to a representative of C2 Tactical and Venn Construction.
