1. The Arizona Coyotes, the Global Sport Institute at Arizona State University (ASU), and the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute at ASU, have announced new program partners for the upcoming Arizona Coyotes Venture Challenge, Mortenson and DLA Piper. The Arizona Coyotes Venture Challenge will provide a launchpad for aspiring entrepreneurs while keeping the Coyotes on the forefront of new sport-related innovation. The call for applications will open September 13th, 2021, and close on October 24th, 2021, it will culminate with a hybrid virtual/live pitch competition in early December 2021 at ASU Demo Day.

2. Adolfson & Peterson Construction has launched a Southwest special projects division to focus on construction projects of less than $5M with tight deadlines in occupied spaces or facilities. Special Projects Manager Mehul Mistry joined AP Southwest to lead the new division, which won its inaugural project bid from the Kyrene School District for weatherization improvements to Mariposa, Manitas, Esperanza and Lagos Elementary Schools.
3. Prestamos CDFI, a division of Chicanos Por La Causa, announced it has been awarded $45M in New Markets Tax Credits from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. Prestamos is a Community Development Entity that provides capital to businesses and community services projects in highly distressed, low-income communities in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Texas. Prestamos has received four previous awards totaling $125M.
4. Carlisle Companies Incorporated announced it has successfully completed the purchase of Henry Company from affiliates of American Securities LLC for $1.575B in cash. Serving a range of customers across both new construction and repair & restoration projects within the residential, light commercial, and commercial end-markets, Henry’s complementary solutions strengthen the positioning of Carlisle’s Construction Materials (CCM) business in integrated building envelope solutions that reduce installation times and improve energy efficiency.
5. Cullum Homes just surpassed $100M in annual revenue — the first time the custom homebuilder has broken past the $100M annual revenue mark.
Promotions
6. Brycon announced Don Helton’s promotion to Vice President of Business Development within the AZ General Contracting division. Helton has been with Brycon for eight years and has led the team to some key clients and projects. Helton is well connected within the industry, and they are excited to announce his promotion.
7. Marissa D. Worley has been promoted to Vice President, focusing on executing P.B. Bell’s accounting operations, including overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions for corporate, development, and third party-owned assets, managing internal and external property audits, and tax coordination of company-owned assets. She joined P.B. Bell in 2018, bringing 13 years of accounting experience. Prior to joining the multifamily industry, Worley worked in homebuilding, manufacturing, and staffing.
8. Phoenix City Council plans to appoint Jeff Barton, a current assistant city manager, to fill the vacant city manager role at its September 8th meeting. Barton will fill the vacancy left by Ed Zuercher, who announced in July he was retiring effective October 8th.
New Hires
9. Alex Popovic has been hired as the Director of Land Acquisition at P.B. Bell. He is responsible for identifying, sourcing and coordinating land acquisitions for future multifamily and build-to-rent P.B. Bell developments. Before joining the team, Popovic was the Vice President of development for a local multifamily development firm where he oversaw and managed the buildout of over 1,200 multifamily units, and he also founded and ran a commercial real estate brokerage company.
10. Anne Healy has been hired as the Director of Development at P.B. Bell, and is responsible for managing the entitlement process and receipt of permits for all development projects. Healy works closely with the land acquisition and construction teams at P.B. Bell to ensure that each project stays on schedule and within budget, is well-designed, and is of the luxury quality that P.B. Bell is known for.
11. MEB Management Services announced the addition of Bertha Soto as Senior Asset Director and Amity Dalton as Asset Director. Soto joined MEB after serving eight years as a senior regional portfolio director with Shelton Residential. She will be responsible for all assets located in Santa Fe, N.M. and Las Cruces, N.M. Dalton provides 20 years of multifamily experience and has held many roles overseeing a variety of community types for companies such as Alliance Residential, Simpson Property Group and Baron Properties. At MEB, she will oversee the company’s build-to-rent properties and be responsible for directing and assisting in all aspects of the operations to ensure ownership objectives are achieved.
12. Shelby Hollman and Rachel Arndt have joined RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture’s Tempe office as Designer and Administrative Coordinator respectively.
