Groundbreakings
1. Preliminary construction has begun on Tucson’s 22nd Street Bridge Revitalization Project, part of the overall effort to improve 22nd Street from Kino Parkway to Tucson Blvd. After the preliminary work is finished, construction on the bridge will begin early next year, with completion expected by summer of 2025.
Progress Reports
2. The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced all ramp connections at I-10 and Miller Road have been opened as a Diverging Diamond Interchange following reconstruction work that started in January. ADOT is widening eight miles of I-10 from two to three lanes in each direction between Verrado Way and SR 85 while also reconstructing the interchanges at Miller and Watson roads. The entire $82M I-10 improvement project, which was launched in July 2021, is on schedule for completion in summer 2023.
3. Brycon’s Sunlit Chemical Plant project in Phoenix has started vertical construction. The steel canopy structure is being erected and civil underground is ongoing. The main building footings have also been installed, and the site fence footings and walls are underway.
Completions
4. Carvana announced it has completed its newest car vending machine tower. The second Carvana tower in the Valley, the latest launch is located on Bell Road near the Loop 101 freeway in Glendale. The steel and glass structure stands eight stories tall and has a 31-vehicle capacity.
5. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has dedicated its new $30M Air Traffic Control Tower, naming it after the late U.S. Senator John S. McCain III. The new tower will officially enter service on Aug. 27.
6. Wood Partners announced the grand opening of its latest multifamily community: Alta Warehouse District at 402 W. Lincoln Street in downtown Phoenix. Alta Warehouse District offers 300 apartment homes comprised of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans.
