The City of Peoria’s recently approved $950M budget includes more than $170M for water infrastructure, according to news reports, which City officials say demonstrates Peoria’s commitment to meeting residents’ needs now and in the future.
The largest infrastructure project on the budget is $62M for the CAP/LPP Intersection Wellfield and Pipeline and Zone 6E Reservoir & Booster Pump Station, which will provide new potable water wells, water lines and a pumping station near the Central Arizona Project Canal and Lake Pleasant Parkway to ensure a redundant water supply in north Peoria. The state is contributing $10M toward the project costs.
The Beardsley Water Reclamation Facility Expansion will see $32.4M under the new budget. When the project is completed, the plant’s current capacity of 4 million gallons/day will be increased to 6 million.
Another $10M allocation is intended for the Jomax Water Reclamation Facility Expansion, currently under construction north of Beardsley Road and west of the Agua Fria River.
A reclaimed water line project from Jomax to Lake Pleasant Parkway will receive $21.6M, and carryover funds from last year will be applied to a reclaimed line running from Beardsley to Rose Garden Lane.
Outside of the physical infrastructure components of Peoria’s water planning and delivery efforts, the City plans to fund five new water service staff jobs and support turf reduction and water conservation rebate programs.
Funding for the projects is provided through multiple sources including customer water use charges, impact fees, Water Infrastructure Finance Authority loans and state appropriations.
