A new report from SmartAsset ranks Arizona in the 10 best states for infrastructure.
In its third annual “States with the Best Infrastructure” study, the company compared all 50 states using eight metrics:
- Percentage of roads in good or fair condition;
- Percentage of bridges in good or fair condition;
- 20-year water system needs;
- Broadband coverage;
- Average frequency of electricity outages;
- Average duration of electricity outages;
- Average commute time, and
- Percentage of commuters using public transit.
Arizona ranked 10th overall. The top three states were Nevada, Utah and Nebraska. Mississippi, Louisiana and West Virginia ranked lowest.
In summarizing Arizona’s infrastructure quality, the report said, “The Grand Canyon state has the lowest average frequency and length of power outages (0.51 times a year and roughly 45 minutes, respectively) across all 50 states. Broadband coverage accounts for 88.4% of the state. Arizona also has the fourth-highest percentage of bridges in good or fair condition (98.4%) and ranks 25th-best for its percentage of roads in the same condition (81.4%).” (Source)
