Groundbreakings
1. Bathrooms in one portion of Paiute Neighborhood Center have started construction in order to bring them up to ADA compliance. The project renovations will occur in building 2 of the neighborhood center, 6535 E. Osborn Rd. Doege Development, LLC is the general contractor.
2. An Arizona Department of Transportation project getting underway this weekend will widen and make other improvements along the Loop 101 Pima Freeway between Interstate 17 in north Phoenix and Pima Road in north Scottsdale. The $185M project is scheduled for completion by early 2021.
Progress Reports
3. Optima Sonoran Village, a mixed-used residential community in downtown Scottsdale, AZ, has poured its last slab of concrete, topping off its fifth and final tower. The topping off is a major construction milestone for the community, which broke ground on the final phase in January 2018. First move-ins at the final tower are anticipated for May 2019.
4. Construction of the $148M, 485KSF Maricopa County Intake Transfer and Release Facility is now more than 50 percent complete. Concrete wall panels and finished and interior framing is well under way. Only a few areas remain that still need concrete slabs put in place. Hensel Phelps is the general contractor on the project. Construction is expected to be completed in October 2019.
Completions
5. The CORE Institute, Arizona’s largest orthopedic practice, announced that it has opened the doors to its new West Phoenix facility at 9321 W. Thomas Rd, Phoenix on January 23.
6. The Hopi Elementary School, 5110 E. Lafayette Blvd, Phoenix, community and the Scottsdale Unified School District celebrated the completion of the school’s rebuild project with a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
7. After millions of taxpayer dollars spent on repairs, a town-owned sports facility re-opens this weekend with a new name and a new operator. Gilbert Parks and Recreation is now managing the facility renamed Cactus Yards. The $40M taxpayer-funded facility features scaled-down replicas of eight pro-baseball fields such as Fenway Park in Boston and Yankee Stadium in New York, a 20KSF indoor soccer pavilion and batting cages.
8. The Colorado River Union High School District has announced that the grand opening of the fieldhouse — the future home for much of River Valley and Mohave high school athletics — will take place March 2. The fieldhouse will have seating for up to 8,000 — 4,500 permanent seats and 3,500 floor seats.
