Groundbreakings
1. The Water Services team with McCarthy Building Companies Inc. recently began construction on the City of Phoenix Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant in north central Phoenix. The two-phase, $37.2M rehabilitation project focuses on updating the solids treatment portion of the plant, which intakes and filters water from the Arizona Canal, to increase plant efficiencies. The project also includes the addition of a new electrical building at the site.
2. Rockefeller Group and Mosaic broke ground on Corsica Villas, a 152-unit Build-to-Rent townhome community in Phoenix. The community will have two locations, with the first 68 townhomes being on 20th Street and the remaining 84 on 7th Street. Completion is expected in late 2025 or early 2026.
3. The City of Mesa announced the groundbreaking for Gateway Library, a 28KSF full-service library in Mesa. The library is expected to open in Summer 2025. Willmeng Construction is the general contractor.
Progress Reports
4. BOCA BN LLC—a joint venture of BrightNight and Cordelio Power LP—announced it has finalized $414M of funding for the Box Canyon solar project in Pinal County. Construction began in December of 2023 and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
5. A May 23 topping-out ceremony has been announced for the East Tower of the Central Station redevelopment project in downtown Phoenix. Representatives from the City of Phoenix and members from the development and project teams—GMH Communities, CBRE Investment Management, Medistar Corporation, Layton Construction and Multistudio—will attend. The project is scheduled to open in early 2025.
Completions
6. Kohler Co. announced the completion of its 1MSF manufacturing plant in Casa Grande. M.A. Mortenson Co. was the general contractor.
7. Alliance Residential Company announced the opening of Broadstone Uptown PHX, a 280-unit apartment community in Phoenix. The community offers studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units ranging from 619SF to 1,84SF. ORB Architecture and Katie Bowe Design were the designers.
8. Phoenix Children’s has opened the 44KSF Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital at Thomas Campus in Phoenix. The new NICU replaces the previous facility and is Arizona’s only Level IV NICU, as designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. HKS was the project architect, and Kitchell served as general contractor.
9. The City of Glendale held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the renovated Glendale City Courthouse. The renovations included two Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant service windows, new digital screens for displaying information and dividers installed between the customer service counters.
10. Maricopa County Flood Control District announced the completion of the Southwest Maintenance Facility, a 5.6KSF space in Buckeye. BWS was the architect, and Danson Construction, LLC was the general contractor.
