Following a unanimous vote by the Maricopa City Council, the City will sell three parcels next to Copper Sky Regional Park to S3 BioTech LLC so the developer can move ahead with plans to build a medical campus. The total sale will be approximately $3M. The company plans a specialty emergency hospital with 25 beds and at least 100KSF of space for medical services, ambulatory surgeries, lab and office space. In a recent report to the Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission, Rick West, president of Carefree Partners, landowner of the Surprise City Center site, explained his vision for the site features a focus on height and density, with buildings reaching, and in some cases surpassing, heights of 10 stories. The Glendale Planning Commission has recommended approval for a rezoning request that would enable an expansion at Tanger Outlets in the Westgate Entertainment District. Outlets at Westgate LLC wants to build an entertainment facility, four new restaurants and a digital billboard on a seven-acre parcel along Loop 101 on the shopping center’s west side. The restaurant uses would total 30.3KSF, and the entertainment location would be 14KSF. Tanger is currently working to secure business tenants for the location, according to project representatives. By Arizona Department of Transportation Approval of a $400M appropriation by the Arizona legislature means the Arizona Department of Transportation can now submit a grant request for an additional $300 million in federal money for a proposed project to alleviate long standing traffic congestion on Interstate 10 between Chandler and Casa Grande. The Pinyon Plain Mine, a planned uranium extraction operation roughly 10 miles south of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, recently took one more step toward operation when the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality issued an aquifer protection plan permit. The permit is required for any operation that discharges pollutants into groundwater. Applicants must show how they plan to use technology to prevent discharges from filtering into groundwater and meet other state water quality standards.
