Groundbreakings
1. Picking up an announcement from CoStar, ORION Investment Real Estate reports EKN Development has begun construction on the dual-branded, 148-room Fairfield Inn and TownePlace Suites at Tempe Market Station near Tempe Marketplace. FFKR Architects is the design firm, and Porter Brothers Construction serves as general contractor.
2. EPCOR has begun construction on the Copper Basin Water Reclamation Facility in San Tan Valley. The new facility will replace the Section 11 lagoon-style plant, which will be decommissioned by 2025. Copper Basin is scheduled to be in operation by December 2023.
Progress Reports
3. After a full year of construction, the Arizona Department of Transportation reports Phase I of the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project is complete. Phase II of the project is now underway and is scheduled to continue through late 2023. During Phase II, crews will reconfigure ramps; begin construction of the collector-distributor roads on east and westbound I-10 between Baseline Road and 40th Street; continue widening and improving the Guadalupe Road bridge; and continue making roadway improvements. Also in Phase II, work to widen eastbound I-10 south of Baseline Road is scheduled for completion and that section of roadway is set to open to drivers before the end of 2022.
Completions
4. Hoefer Welker and U.S. Federal Properties have completed work on the 275KSF Phoenix 32nd Street VA Clinic for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The clinic sits on 15 acres and is now one of the largest VA care facilities in the U.S.
5. EPCOR USA Inc. has completed a $48M expansion of the Luke 303 Regional Water Reclamation Facility. The facility can now return up to 1.75 million gallons daily. Designed to expand in phases with the surrounding area, Luke 303 will ultimately recharge up to 8 million gallons into the ground every day.
6. The Epicenter component of Agritopia in Gilbert is nearing completion for its retail section. Ground-floor retail tenants could begin taking occupancy this month, with move-ins planned to continue into Q1 2023.
7. Having gotten underway last August, Pinal County and the Town of Queen Creek are wrapping up their project to connect Meridian Road from Germann Road to the new SR 24. The project consisted of creating a three-lane roadway with traffic signals and water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure in place. The new segment will be open to local traffic until August 11th. It will then be opened to all users.
8. The 38KSF school and 6.35-acre campus for Arizona Autism Charter Schools Inc. in Peoria celebrated their grand opening July 21st. Classes begin August 1st.
