Like many – if not most – major projects around the country, Peoria’s four-phase Beardsley Water Reclamation Facility Expansion is suffering cost impacts and timeline delays due to ongoing supply chain constraints.
Costs for Phase 2A, which includes construction of a new reclaimed water pump station, are running over budget by between 17%-and-20%, and the timeline has pushed from the end of next year to some point in 2024.
The Peoria City Council recently approved an amendment to its contract with the builder totaling $21.95M.
Peoria Water Services Director Cape Powers said the increases are due to a combination of lead times for materials, price inflation, increases in construction and labor costs, and ongoing supply chain disruptions. He said there is little choice but to manage the increases, given the project’s vital importance to the city and its residents.
The MGC Contractors/Carollo design-build team is working with City staff to keep costs down by putting all major components out to bid, managing early procurements for items with long lead times, and adjusting project scope and time where possible.
Reclaimed water is an essential component of Peoria’s long-term water use plan, and Mayor Cathy Carlat has said stopping or postponing the project is not an option. (Source)
