Two Water Projects Advancing in Somerton

By Roland Murphy for Arizona Builder’s Exchange

The City of Somerton has closed a $550K loan through the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona that will let it acquire the water system of Orange Grove Water Company. The water company is located in an unincorporated area of Yuma County and serves the communities of Orange Grove and Rancho Mesa Verde.

According to a statement from WIFA announcing the loan, “With the acquisition, the City of Somerton will Manage operations of the water system, improve existing facilities, and invest in the infrastructure to ensure safe drinking water for years to come.”

In separate, but related, news, Somerton is also going to use $1.86M in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Colonia funds to build a pipeline that connects Orange Grove residents and to install a new storage tank, booster station, generator and fire hydrants for Orange Grove and Rancho Mesa Verde.
