An $84.7M project that would streamline travel from Interstate 10 to Broadway via St. Mary’s Road, Sixth Street and Barraza-Aviation Parkway is moving along. The final plan and property acquisitions for the stretch from Church Avenue to Broadway are scheduled to be completed in 2015.

Broadway Boulevard Widening

The RTA and the City of Tucson agreed on a six-lane design in December after years of negotiations between officials and residents. Now with a $1.5 million boost from the RTA, the city can begin designing the project in earnest. Don’t expect traffic to be interrupted anytime soon — construction likely won’t begin until 2016.

The proposed route from Nogales to Las Vegas got a vote of support from the state Transportation Board, which approved $15 million for a three-year environmental impact study that will begin in 2015.

The study will focus on potential environmental consequences in the area between Nogales and Wickenburg.

SR 86 Growth

Contractors should be able to bid on a project to widen state Route 86 between Valencia Road and Kinney Road in spring 2015, and construction could start by the end of the year. The project will widen Ajo Way to four lanes between Valencia and Sheridan Avenue, and to six lanes from Sheridan to Kinney Road.
