Surprise Mayor Sharon Wolcott is popping up on TV and computer screens to promote her vision for commuter rail and transit-centered redevelopment along Grand Avenue.

Wolcott has created a 10-minute video that outlines her plans for using rail to help revitalize the corridor along Grand from Phoenix to Surprise. The video has been posted on her new website, mayorsharonwolcott.wordpress.com, and is being aired on Surprise 11.

Cities along Grand have teamed up to breathe new life into the corridor. Mayors from each community along the highway have signed onto a charter that states they will work together to create a shared vision, though not everyone agrees that commuter rail is the best form of mass transit for the area.

The Maricopa Association of Governments or MAG is leading a study to create such an overall vision for the corridor, looking at improvements that could increase traffic flow and mobility. MAG’s study will also look at issues such as access to adjacent property and guidelines for landscaping and signage.
