Phoenix City Council Approves $121K 5-Year Public-Art Plan

By Connie Cone Sexton for The Arizona Republic

A five-year plan for public art in Phoenix was approved by the City Council last week and includes a project to help the public better understand efforts to help the environment.

Artists will be commissioned to produce artwork for billboards, books and Web-based media to “spark greater community awareness and thinking about sustainable approaches through the use of resources.”

The resulting project, budgeted for $121,000, will be available online and through other media as part of the Public Works Department’s educational programming at its facilities citywide.
