Adeptus Health will create a new 92KSF medical surgical hospital in Mesa at the corner of Elliot and Ellsworth roads under plans submitted to the city. The facility is planned to open in Spring 2017 and will operate under Adeptus’ Dignity Health banner.
Adeptus is a holding company with 70 facilities in its network. Its portfolio includes Dignity Health and First Choice Emergency Room. Dignity Health is a major national medical care provider with locations in 21 states. Adeptus’ Arizona facilities include the existing Arizona General Hospital in Laveen and seven other hospitals around the Valley, as well as several area freestanding emergency rooms and urgent care centers.
The new Arizona General Hospital will feature 46 private inpatient rooms, 14 emergency room stations, a surgical suite with four operating rooms of at least 600SF each, four intensive care unit rooms, and diagnostic, administrative and support areas.
The proposed building will be three stories, with a four-story stair tower. The exterior will be primarily constructed of brick and stone cavity wall, with aluminum metal panel and stucco accents on the rotunda. The interior will feature wood cabinetry, tile flooring, and accents of wood, metal and glass.
Landscaping will feature a mix of regionally-friendly trees, including acacia, mesquite and palo verde, as well as shrubs and ground plants such as agave, ocotillo and cacti.

In a related development, plans are also underway for a freestanding 24-hour outpatient emergency room facility associated with the hospital to be located on 1.47 acres at Rural Road and Minton Drive in Tempe.
The 7,753SF Arizona General Hospital Emergency Room will offer a full range of emergency services with no extended stay accommodations. Patients who need a higher level of care, such as hospital admission or surgery, will be transported to Arizona General Hospital or another full service facility.
The exterior will feature light-colored stucco and clear glass as well as aluminum composite panels. Landscaping will feature trees including rosewood, pine and elm, as well as supporting plants and shrubbery such as bougainvillea and bird of paradise.
The facility’s parent companies are Adeptus and Dignity Health.
