Creating sustainable and interesting planning and landscape design is an opportunity to also create a sense of place. We want our urban space to invite and engage our citizens while enhancing our community. Join our group on Wednesday Oct. 4th with Dr. Jason Schupbach, Director of the Design School at ASU.
Jason will discuss his years of supporting the movement of ‘creative placemaking’ – a collaboration amongst government, foundations, NGOs, and businesses to empower designers and artists to have a seat at the comprehensive community development table. He will show examples of multiple projects from across the country of communities engaging the arts and design to build a better life for the American people, and outline the infrastructure that is being built in the field and at ASU to support this work.
Jason is a nationally recognized expert in the role that arts and design play in improving communities, and was the federal liaison to the design community in his role as Director of Design and Creative Placemaking Programs for the National Endowment for the Arts. Jason has written extensively on the role of arts and design in making better communities, and his writing has been featured as a Best Idea of the Day by the Aspen Institute.
