Join us Wednesday, October 3 at 7:15 at Valley Metro’s office at 101 N First Avenue, 13th floor to participate in a discussion about creating Healthy Communities.
Use of the term “healthy communities” has been on the rise in recent years. But what does that actually mean? And what are the designer’s and planner’s roles in creating a healthy community? In our presentation this month, learn about how one Arizona foundation is defining it, how planning plays a central role, and opportunities to integrate these concepts into our work.
Our speaker will be C.J. Eisenbarth Hager, who is Director, Healthy Community Policies for the Vitalyst Health Foundation, an independent, non-partisan public foundation. C.J.’s work centers on promoting public policies that support healthy lifestyles, where it touches a number of different specialties and policy areas, including urban planning, land use, transportation, urban design, housing, community development and sustainability. For example, C.J. oversaw the health impact assessment and health recommendations for REinvent PHX, and also led a broad coalition of residents and organizations to pass the Complete Streets ordinance within the city of Phoenix. She is a founding member of the Maricopa County Food System Coalition.
