A blighted neighborhood in Phoenix, is transforming into a community food hub, complete with a vegetable garden tended by refugee families. Working with the humanitarian organization International Rescue Committee, ASU student teams from the School of Sustainability, Fulton School of Engineering, and Herberger Design School used creative approaches to solicit community feedback and create sustainable design concepts for their project. Jessica Otten, Assistant Director of Development for ASU’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability will present how this site, through careful and intensive design, becomes a place for the refugee community to call home and feel integrated into the neighborhood.
