Plaza Companies has submitted site and landscape plans to the City of Scottsdale for a new five-story, 100KSF Element Hotel for SkySong near Scottsdale and McDowell Roads.
Element is part of the Marriott hotel family. The brand focuses on extended stay accommodations, healthy living and eco-conscious design elements, including recycled carpet, low-use fixtures, LED lighting and recycling systems.
According to the submittal, the main entry and porte cochere will be across from SkySong’s existing parking garage. The building’s U-shaped layout will incorporate an outdoor courtyard facing Scottsdale Road. A fitness center, lounge area and meeting space will be oriented toward the courtyard space.
Kitchens will be provided in 144 of the 148 rooms. The other four rooms, on the ground floor, will be centered around a communal socialization/collaboration space with a common living room, kitchen and dining space.
The building’s skin will primarily consist of an Exterior Insulated Finishing System. The color scheme will heavily feature desert-centric creams and greys with terra cotta accent bands. Variously sized punched windows of one-to-four bays will be incorporated into the skin.
Landscaping plans call for retaining as many of the trees and plants currently on the site as possible, with relocation and refinements put in place as needed.
The submittal narrative concludes, “The Element Hotel at SkySong is an essential addition to the development as a whole, as it provides overnight accommodation to visitors of SkySong as well as serving as a gathering space for the inhabitants of the neighboring office buildings and apartment complex. With its focus on green design and sustainable practices, the hotel is also an asset and model to the greater Scottsdale community, as it provides a dynamic architectural design along Scottsdale Road and an engaging public space in the courtyard.”
