The Town of Gilbert Design Review Board at its June 9 meeting will consider a developer’s request to build a new outpatient emergency room in the Home Depot Center at the NWC of Val Vista Drive and Warner Road.
First Choice ER, LLC – which develops hospitals for Dignity Health – submitted a site plan, landscape, grading and drainage, elevations, floor plans, lighting, colors and materials for the Arizona General Hospital Emergency Room project, which will replace a 7-11 store on .93 acres at the far SWC of the 13.64-acre plaza. The address of the new ER will be 785 S. Val Vista Drive.
The 8,452SF, 22’-8”-tall building will be constructed in one phase, along with parking, lighting, landscaping and site improvements. The front entrance – which will feature a glass tower reaching 36’ in height – will face Val Vista Drive, with ambulance pick up at the rear of the building towards the Home Depot. No additional access points will be constructed.
A 24’-wide porte-cochere will extend 20’ feet from the building to cover the drop-off/pick-up lane at the face of the building. The ambulance entrance will have a similar canopy, which will extend 16’ from the building. Large windows on the front and side elevations will be shaded by covered aluminum awnings. The same awnings will be provided at the rear of the building, but there will be no windows on that side.
A similar Arizona General Hospital facility was approved for construction in Glendale in May and in Mesa last year (AZBEX, May 31, 2016, Nov. 13, 2015). Dignity Health operates similar facilities in Chandler and Laveen.
First Choice has engaged GSR Andrade Architects for design. Kimley-Horn is Civil Engineer, Landscape Architect and planner for the development.
No GC or project timeline were identified in the project submittal.
